Maurice Joron (1883-1927) Portrait of a Woman circa 1920

US$0.00

Maurice JORON, born in Paris in 1883, died in Vaucresson in 1937.
He entered Fernand Cormon's studio at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. But the academic teaching did not appeal to him. He met Mme Tavernier, who ran a literary and artistic salon in Paris, and became his patron. Fortunate enough to hire a tutor for him, she took her protégé to Florence, Naples, Venice, Amsterdam, to see Titian, Rembrandt and Vermeer.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he was awarded a medal hors-concours in 1909. In the same year, he began a career as a portrait painter, later becoming a draughtsman for "Le Crapouillot" and "La guerre documentée" from 1915. After a major state commission for the 1937 expo universelle, he died after a short illness.
Museums : Bry sur Marne, Boulogne Billancourt
