LIU FENGHUA & LIU YONG – TERRACOTTA WARRIOR 2004

This Terracotta Warrior sculpture by Chinese collaborative artist duo, Liu Fenghua and Liu Yong, is one of the earliest of an ever-expanding army of one-of-a-kind decorated terracotta statues. Made in 2004 for the first series of Terracotta Warriors, this design in particular features a collaged newspaper pattern with a political theme that makes a humorous satire of tensions between the East and West, interspersed with weather reports and other mundanities. The tone and design of this piece is unique to any other of the Terracotta Warriors in the series, and given the aesthetic and content, makes it one of the most desirable.
