DON McCULLIN – BEIRUT, A CITY IN CRISIS

215.00

Signed first edition, published by New English Library, 1986.

Inscribed to Dennis Healy from Don McCullin.

Don McCullin has captured some of the most famous images associated with conflict in the 20th and 21st centuries, from the Vietnam war to current conflicts in the Middle East. This book presents a collection of photographs taken at a time of turmoil in the city of Beirut, including a text by McCullin describing his experiences of the city.

Martin Amis writes about McCullin:

'As good as anything I have ever seen. Hockney said that photography cannot be art because the dimension of time is absent from the creative process, it doesn't take long enough to push the button. Don's stuff shows where the time goes, in patience, in vigil. He is like a ghostly film, director floating around in real life.'
