First edition, published by Schiffer Publishing, 1999

Starting out as a leather business in Stuttgart, 1865, the Knoll empire grew as Walter Knoll expanded the furniture manufacturing, making pieces of such high quality that they were appointed as the Royal Court supplier around 1890. Nowadays we associate the company with its influential history of modernist furniture, growing from the later part of the early 20th century onwards, over the years many design luminaries have created pieces for the brand, including Foster + Partners, Kengo Kuma, Claudio Bellini and Ben ven Berkel. Walter Knoll continues to manufacture high quality furniture in factories and workshops in Germany.
