COLOUR AND INTERIOR DECORATION – BASIL IONIDES, 1926

1,100.00

First edition, published by Country Life Ltd, 1926

This incredibly scarce book was published the same year Basil Ionides did the iconic refit for Claridges Hotel in Brook Street London and 3 years before he remodeled rooms for The Savoy Hotel and his professional piece de resistance was the 1929 mirror-and-glass decoration of the Savoy Theatre, whose icy glitter still staggers the eye. In this first book by this influencial British interior designer Basil Ionides, the guide to the use of colour in interior decoration approaches the many intricacies of colour combination in the styles of the period. He gives advice on the treatment and trim for soft furnishings, to the more surprising suggestions of pasting gold stars on a dark blue ceiling, and entirely covering walls with an irregular arrangement of 18th century prints.

Generously illustrated with colour reproductions of watercolours and black and white photographic prints.
